Study of the Principal Component Analysis Method for the Correction of Images Degraded by Turbulence

This article details the use of principal component analysis in order to restore images degraded by atmospheric turbulence. It analyzes and discusses a well-known paper and proposes a generalization of the algorithm described in such article. Examples using sequences of real atmospheric turbulence are presented. Real atmospheric turbulent image acquisition is described and sequences are made accessible for downloading.
